Thunder in the Pits

During the NHRA Nationals October 27-30 in Las Vegas I spent some time cruising the pits with our tour guide, Jim Cloonan.   We were at the pit area of Brandon Bernstein during the time they were test running the engine.  These monsters put out 8000 horsepower.  The noise is incredible.  Days are spent getting ready for a 4 second race.  Very cool.

Out for a Sunday drive

Last Sunday Beth and I wanted to get out of the house.  We decided to take a drive up to the waterfalls on the Lewis River.  After a few missed turns we finally got there around 3 in the afternoon.  First we took the short walk to Lower Falls which is really impressive.  Then we drove on a bit further and hiked into Middle Falls.  It's a beautiful place.    I shot a few pictures but really liked this one the best.

Dreaming of Antelope

Someone I know has been asking me to post some pictures of our recent trip to the southwest. I thought I'd show you a picture from Antelope Canyon near Page, Arizona. I have more that I will be posting over the next few weeks. Hope you like it.

Monument Valley

We had just left our campsite this morning when we drove around the corner on our way to Monument Valley. The morning light was glowing in the east behind the rock formations. I decided I had to pull over and take a picture. Another beautiful morning in paradise. Hope yours was good too.

It's all in the details

Sometimes you get the chance to visit a new place that is so awesome that all you can do is stand back and take in the whole grand scene. Normally that would have been the case when we visited the Willis Creek canyon area of southern Utah. However, on this day I had the bad luck of having the flu. As a result I got to the point that I just had to sit down and rest while Beth went on ahead and explored. After I rested awhile I was able to do a bit of photographic exploring of my own. Right there where I was sitting I noticed that the sandstone walls had this beautiful texture that was just amazing. I took this picture to try to capture the feeling of the place. Sometimes, it's all in the details.

Why a blog?

Why do I need a blog?  Good question.  I've decided that I want to share some of my photos with others.  I'm not sure who will be interested but here goes...

This photo was taken on our first cold, rainy day at the North Rim of the Grand Canyon last year.  We decide to take a drive out to Cape Royal.  I'm glad we did because just before we arrived the rain stopped and the clouds began to break up.
